Monica's artwork ranges from plein air done in all seasons, to expressing her ideas and concepts on canvas.  The medium she uses is primarily oil paint.  Monica Burnside grew up in and is currently a resident in the Toronto area of Ontario. She is a dedicated oil painter that has acquired a unique impressionistic brush stroke. Monica regularly paints “en plein air”  in locations such as Ontario, British Columbia, Florida, USA and Mexico. Highlights include becoming Vice President for the  Colour and Form Society of Toronto in November 2019 and becoming an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists.  Monica was also a  participant in the "Legacy Mural" at the Cisco Pan Am Velodrome in Milton Ontario, mentoring students in a local youth program and working with a group of artists on the new Milton District Hospital 33 foot Mural in 2017.

 

Monica has been trained by award winning painters and has recently received Honorable Mention for "2020 Vision" in the open juried CFS 68th Annual Exhibition,  "The Kleinburg Village Scene" Award,  on August 25 at the McMichael Canadian Art Gallery, 2019,  She received Third Prize for "Rattlesnake Point in May", presented at the Beaux Arts Annual Juried Exhibition 2017.  Also, Honorable Mentions for her paintings "Gary's Journey" in the Headwaters Arts Juried Show, also for ""Ice Creams are Cool" at the Lakeshore Arts 20th Annual Open Juried Exhibition. Her painting  "Journey through Elora Gorge" won 2'nd prize at the Jaychuk Juried Exhibition, Wellington County Art Gallery in 2011.

"Okanagan Shores” was displayed at an International Art Exhibition “My Friends and I”- Plovdiv Centre, Bulgaria for January 2012. Monica held several successful Solo Exhibitions in the general Toronto area over the past few years.  

​Monica's paintings were juried into the  46th and 49th and 2019  SCA Open Juried Shows, Monica's painting "Beyond all Boundaries" was in the Kelowna Art Gallery's' "The Power of Women's Creativity: Past, Present and Future" September 20-December 6, 2014.

                                               Artist Statement

​I am a dedicated oil painter who is passionate about sharing my creations and concepts on canvas.  My contemporary paintings have been described as unique and memorable. I have acquired an impressionistic, soft brush style but also use a palette knife at times.  I was elected as Vice President  of the Colour and Form Society, Toronto in November 2019. I am also an elected member of the Society of Canadian Artists,   "I am interested in capturing the emotive aspect of nature and its spiritual character."
